Review: Avon Rare Flowers Night Orchid Eau de Parfum

Review: Avon Rare Flowers Night Orchid Eau de Parfum

The other day I was at a store and saleslady said to me that I smell so lovely. It was one of those rare compliments from a complete stranger that makes your day. I was wearing Avon’s new Rare Flowers Night Orchid fragrance. It’s one of those stronger fragrances with lots of floral notes and sweeter base, but with a punch. I have grown to really like it, although it seemed a bit too floral in the beginning. Packaging Theme is purple with gold details. I actually created a makeup look around this bottle, if you’re interested in it. Glass bottle has purple to transparent ombre design. Metallic details are all gold as well as the writing on it. Top part is from transparent plastic and it looks sort of like a petal. Avon had this kind of top already on their fragrance called Cherish. In it is 50 ml of product and regular price is 26€, but you’ll almost always find it on offer for less (Avon Slovenia). Fragrance Top notes: pink pepper, bitter orange Middle notes: black orchid, violet Base notes: golden gardenia, vanilla, cashmere Initial spritz kicks it off with a very strong kick on a bitter citrus note. I sense pink pepper as the stronger note mixed with bitter orange to give it that citrus freshness. It quickly becomes softly floral. Base notes need longer to develop, but once they do, it gives the fragrance slightly softer sweetness with a touch of floral. I would describe it as stronger oriental floral fragrance. Oriental vibe in this is pink pepper with cashmere vanilla base. Everything else in it leans more floral, apart from the initial burst of bitter orange which evaporates quickly. I like that florals don’t overpower this fragrance. There is a lot of that darker stronger base to it, but with that subtle sweetness of vanilla. Performance This is stronger than I expected it to be. It’s eau de parfum, but the notes in it make it feel much stronger than usual Avon fragrances. I would consider it more of an evening perfume for most of perfume lovers, but if you like stronger fragrances, you’ll wear it throughout the day as I do. It lasts on my skin very well. As I mentioned before, saleslady told me that she smelled me when I came into the store and I am not one of those people that pours perfume all over them. This proves that this is quite a strong fragrance that leaves an impact. I was afraid it would be too floral for me, but the base notes ground it so well. It’s not super original in terms of notes, but I find pink pepper in it to give it that punch that I wouldn’t expect. If you like floral notes mixed with sweeter vanilla cashmere base with a tinge of that spicy kick of pink pepper, you will like it. In general, it’s one of the stronger Avon fragrances that really lasts well on the skin and is quite powerful. If you prefer lighter and fresher fragrances, this definitely won’t be for you. I can’t seem to put it down. It must be the weather, because it’s still mostly cold here in Slovenia and this sits so well with that moody vibe outside.

Review: Avon Life Colour by Kenzo Takada Eau de Parfum and Body Lotion

Avon is currently dominating my fragrance collection and there are a lot of their fragrances that are my all time favorites. A lot of their fragrances are made in collaboration with famous designers or celebrities. They already collaborated with Kenzo Takada once on their Life fragrance, so this is the second installment. This time they named the fragrance Life Colour by Kenzo Takada. Packaging Avon Life Colour by Kenzo Takada Eau de Parfum I don’t know inspiration behind the design, but it’s eye catching. It’s sort of a pyramid design and from the bird’s perspective it’s triangular. Glass bottle has ombre from red to pink to transparent design. Cap is transparent paired with gold details. It’s definitely worth displaying on a shelf. In it is 50 ml of eau de parfum and the regular price is 37€. You’ll almost always get it cheaper. Avon Life Colour by Kenzo Takada Body Lotion It’s a plastic tube with yellow and red ombre design. Just a regular hole opening tube of body lotion in a standard size. In it you get 150 ml of product and the regular price is 6.50€. Formula Notes: magnolia, pear, raspberry, rice basmati and white suede. The first burst of this fragrance is very floral on me and then a bit of acidity and sweetness from fruity notes kicks in. It goes from floral to slightly acidic to sweet. I assume rice basmati is the next component that gives a bit of that cozy feel to this fragrance. White suede is the last one to come through and it gives it that edge and power. I love my base notes and as with any other fragrance, I also prefer this one once the initial floral fruity notes calm down and the strong base overtakes it. In general I would describe it as sweet fruity floral fragrance. It’s quite sweet, but the base notes combined with florals give it sense of sophistication. I’d say it’s a more youthful and less powdery spin on Life fragrance. For my personal taste this is perfect for spring season, not so much fall. Body lotion has firm white creamy texture that is smooth and glides on the skin lovely, which might be due to dimethicone – a silicon. On top of the ingredients list are some nice humectants and emollients. In general I find the formula good for body lotion, it’s not just alcohol and perfume. It leaves slight sheen on the skin at first, but then it soaks in completely. Performance I don’t usually have problems with longevity of fragrances, so this one stays on my skin just fine. It lasts almost the whole day, obviously getting less intense as the day goes on. I do notice that Life fragrance lasts better on my skin than this one. Body lotion doesn’t have as strong of a scent as I would expect. It’s mild and more of an addition to the parfum, but it feels moisturizing and almost a bit nourishing on the skin which is lovely. I like this fragrance, Avon did it again. It’s sweet, which I love, more in a fresh fruity way and combined with florals and suede it gives it sophisticated feel. It’s not your typical teenage sweet fragrance, rather a more grown up version, but still playful enough. I’d say that this is younger sister to Life or even its daughter. Design is gorgeous as it would be expected from a fashion designer and the price is definitely affordable. If you ever had Avon fragrance, you know, they’re well worth it, it’s just the matter of picking right scent that suits your style and taste. *Products were sent to me.

Review: Avon Attraction Sensation Eau de Parfum

Avon has launched many of my all time favorite fragrances and I always look forward to what they’ll bring out next. I’ve said many times that they have one of the best and most affordable fragrances out there. It’s just a bit harder to buy, which must be the main reason why many don’t own them. Attraction is one of best selling ranges and they have recently added a new version called Sensation. Packaging It has warm purple and gold design. Glass bottle has trapezoid shape from bird’s eye perspective and the cap is also part of interesting gold design. In it you get 50 ml of eau de parfum and the price is usually around 20€. You can buy it from Avon directly or their sellers. Fragrance Avon sells it as the fragrance that awakens all five senses. It comes in a version for her and him and they both share the same accord of bold leather. Fragrance was developed by Laurent Le Guernec. I usually find notes on Fragrantica, but they don’t have them for this version of fragrance yet. So I have found several pages with notes described and they all differ a bit, so don’t quote me on this. But so far I have found it probably contains notes of spicy ginger (I don’t smell it), oriental mandarin, plum, jasmine, orris, midnight freesia, cashmere wood and bold leather. Initially I smell sweet fruity notes – something like plum and mandarin, that turn slightly floral, but there’s a strong note of bold leather present from the start. As it develops a bit it becomes much more oriental sweet with a stronger feel to it. The base seems quite sweet, which must be due to cashmere, but I assume there must be some musk or amber in it too. My nose is not the right source for describing notes, but I can point out general families like fruity and floral. I would describe this as oriental fruity fragrance. Florals are way in the back and I don’t even notice them for that long. Oriental strong sweet base prevails which is exactly how I like it. Bold leather makes it so much more interesting and edgy in a way. Fruity notes give this stronger base some freshness, but still in a very sweet way. This fragrance is most suited for those that like sweet and oriental fragrances with a stronger base. I use it even now in this hotter weather, but it’s definitely more of a night time fragrance. It just depends on what you prefer. Performance It’s eau de parfum, so it means the longevity is good. It’s not the most long lasting fragrance I have ever tried, but because it’s oriental, it lasts well. I have noticed that stronger base notes give perfumes longer longevity. As soon as I spritzed it on my skin for the first time, I knew, this will be my new favorite fragrance. And it is. I have been using it almost every day since I got it. I already used up one third of it, which says a lot, since I almost never finish perfumes. This and Avon Attraction Rush, which I have already used up, happen to be two of my absolute favorite scents from Avon. If you like oriental sweet perfumes like I do, I definitely encourage you to check this one out. You can also read what Original and Rush version smell like. *Product was sent to me.

Review: Avon Herstory Eau de Parfum

Avon released new fragrance for International Women’s Day called Herstory. It celebrates women around the world and encourages them to say their story. It’s one of woody floral mixes. Packaging It comes in a very simple transparent glass bottle with red writing and silver details. Transparent cap is plastic. In it is 50 ml of eau de parfum and it usually costs around 20€. Fragrance Top notes: bergamot, peach blossom, bourbon pepper Middle notes: immortelle, rose, iris Base notes: patchouli, vetiver, benzoin It starts off sort of spicy with a hint of citrus freshness which quickly develops into a more sweeter floral scent. It finishes with a subtle woody note that still has some punch and a bit of sweetness to it. That’s the best explanation that I can give you. I was sure this was going to be another typical floral fragrance from Avon, but it surprised me. It’s sort of fresh in a way, but more than not a very woody fragrance without the usual sweetness that is so prevalent in certain Avon perfumes. I also like that it’s not too floral for my taste, but I would describe it as a woody floral fragrance. Performance It’s not one of those strong sweet fragrance that gives a punch of scent, but it lasts on me fairly well. But then again, I am not the right address for accessing this, since most fragrances last descent on me. I like it more than several floral fragrances from Avon, since this one has quite a bit of that woodiness to it. I would have loved it even more, if bourbon pepper would linger longer and maybe be in the base notes. Florals aren’t as prevalent, which I like, but it may just be a bit too fresh for my personal taste. However, I still wear it as it has that something that appeals to me especially now in this spring weather. I’ve seen Avon do better bottles though and I would have liked a luxurious packaging to go with this kind of grown up scent. *Product was sent to me.
